The Privileged Planet (2004)

The library recently received this documentary on DVD, and it grabbed my interest immediately.  This is a film about scientific exploration; why is the Earth so suited for living things while surrounding planets are such wastelands?  There are many answers to that question, and those answers are more complex than we might have thought.  For example, the Earth is the only planet in our solar system that can sustain liquid water.  That water is protected by our atmosphere, which only exists due to our exact distance from the sun.

The visual art and computer animation used in the film are really attractive.  The entire documentary is interesting and educational.  Because of the Earths unique ability to sustain life, that life gains the ability to make scientific discoveries.
